Groups
MOS Theatre
is the umbrella group for Shire
Productions (outdoor theatre) and Rat Productions (Indoor Theatre) as well as the
Moskeetos Youth Group. MOS have been in existence since 1973 when Moseley Operatic
Society started up as a society presenting Gilbert and Sullivan Productions at Moseley
Grammar School (as it was then) in Wake Green Road. This was their main aim for the
first ten years when they branched out into musicals starting with Fiddler on the Roof in
1984. Since then they have presented a wide variety of musicals traditional and
modern, including Lilac Time, Annie Get Your Gun, Godspell and more recently including
Pendragon and Honk at the Dovehouse Theatre in Solihull.
Rat Productions
Rat Productions been set-up by members of MOS Theatre as a vehicle for independent drama.
From its first production at the New Billeseley Pub with a performance of "The
Importance of Being Ernest" by OscarWilde which was followed by the outrageous
They came from Mars and landed outside the Farndale Avenue Church hall in time for the
Townswomen's Guilds Coffee Morning by David McGillivray and Walter Zerlin Jr, the
group has included a wide remit for potential performances. Their production
of "The Importance of Being Ernest" by Oscar Wilde, was a tremendous hit when it
was performed again at Winterbourne Gardens in Edgbaston.
Rat have previously entered the
Birmingham Theatre Guild's Bfame Festival with a presentation of the one-act play Thistle
in a Donkey Field by Richard Tydeman
Their latest production was Ali Baba and
the Forty Thieves at the Dovehouse Theatre in Solihull.
Members of Rat are often seen in Shire
Productions and vice-versa and both groups are under the umbrella of MOS Theatre.
Moskeetos Youth Drama
Members of Shire Productions and Rat Productions
help to run a drama club for aspiring actors. Young members of Moskeetos have their
own showcase productions and have, over the years, joined in several musicals and plays as
well as entering the Birmingham Theatre Guild's Bfame festival. One of the members won the
'Best Female Actor' Award in 2007.
